Selfportraits from Africa
I had the chance to shoot 8 young guys from Guinea Bissau, Ghana, Gambia who take part to a Documentary Project for my Town, where they show all the difficulties to deal with as refugees through interviews. They needed a simple portrait to introduce themselves and I decided to leave them alone in my studio with a remote control in their hands. They were free to decide, completely alone, how to pose in front of the camera. Besides, they made the editing and choose the more representative image. I was amazed to see how their personality has poured out so clearly, as well as the motivations of their choice. I don't know if it would have been the same thing if I had shot them on a more classical way.
